Research Interests and Accomplishments
Karen Beeri is a Staff Scientist in the Microbial and Environmental Genomics Department at the JCVI in San Diego since 2011. She earned her B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Oceanography in Israel at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Prior to joining JCVI, she held research technician positions at the Universities of Michigan and Chicago. She studied evolution of compensatory mutations to antibiotic resistance in E. coli and B. subtilis, phage exclusion systems and toxin production and release in the bacteriophage 933W and Lipoteichoic acid synthesis in B.anthracis.
Her current research focuses on physiological response of the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum to nutrient availability and the molecular basis of nitrogen and carbon metabolism in marine phytoplankton populations.
