Research Interests and Accomplishments
Manolito Torralba is the Lab Manager for the Department of Genomic Medicine at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). He has worked on several genomics based studies primarily focusing on the effect of the Microbiome on human health and disease. Manolito has developed innovative methods for sample collection along with bacterial DNA and RNA purification from clinical samples while reducing levels of human DNA. His research interests include host-pathogen interactions, biofilm formation, and host immune response to chronic wound infections.
Manolito received his B.S. degree (2004) in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He joined TIGR/JCVI in 2006 and has worked with the Department of Genomic Medicine since 2007.
