Research Interests and Accomplishments
Susmita Shrivastava is a Sr. Bioinformatics Analyst in the Viral Informatics group at J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). She is involved in computational primer design, annotation, standardization of annotation, and Genbank submissions across all viral genomes. Susmita also has extensive experience in the structural and functional annotation of prokaryotic genomes and comparative analysis, having processed and submitted over 100 genomes. Her research interests include prokaryotic and viral annotation, standardization of annotation and viral isolate names for developing robust annotation pipeline and genome analyses. Prior to joining TIGR, one of the legacy organizations of JCVI, Susmita worked at the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) working towards Coronavirus annotation and the data standardization for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Resources (BEIR) data.
Susmita received her M.S. in Plant Pathology from Birsa Agricultural University. Her thesis work focused on management rather than control of three major tomato diseases using sustainable agricultural practices. Later she earned another M.S. in Bioinformatics from the Johns Hopkins University. She is currently working towards her M.B.A. from the Carey Business School, Johns Hopkins University.
