Rice Database
Overview
Rice (genus Oryza) is a model species for study within the monocotyledonous grasses and the cereals, which is the greatest source of food for the world's population. Domesticated rice comprises two species: Oryza sativa and Oryza glaberrima. These species, along with other cereal species, share not only sequence conservation but also synteny, thereby providing an opportunity for leveraging similar cereal sequences. The rice genome sequence will likely serve as a major reference for all cereal genomes (including maize/corn and wheat) as rice is a model cereal and the rice genome sequence is of finished quality. Thus, high-quality, publicly available annotation of the rice genome is imperative for proper interpretation of future cereal genome sequences.
JCVI has created a Rice Genome Annotation Database that provides high quality sequence and annotation data for the rice genome. The database also includes information about the Oryza Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Consortium and links to the Oryza sativa Transcript Assemblies.
