Research Interests and Accomplishments

Indresh K. Singh is a Sr. Bioinformatics Engineer overseeing core informatics at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI).  He manages the processing of the hundreds of terabytes of DNA trace data; manages and develops pipelines for delivering data to customers and public repositories; and manages the development and operation of the JCVI Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), which supports the around-the-clock operation of the JCVI Core Sequencing Technology Center.

The JCVI LIMS supports all high throughput sequencing and re-sequencing projects, providing fully bar-coded tracking of lab staff, instruments, reagents, and samples. JCVI LIMS directly integrates instruments such as DNA sequencers — Sanger instruments plus the new-generation pyrosequencing technologies — as well as the maintenance and usage of other important laboratory devices such as fluid-handling robots and handheld wireless barcode scanners.

Since joining JCVI in 2003, Indresh and his team have won several awards for their innovative use of Java platform technology in a genomics environment. Previously, at Celera Genomics, Indresh developed a LIMS for genomics and proteomics applications. Indresh earned his MS in Computer Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
