Research Interests and Accomplishments

Lauren Brinkac is a Staff Scientist in the Informatics Department at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). Through her work at JCVI, Lauren processed and submitted over 50 prokaryotic genome sequencing projects, and was the lead analyst managing several small and large scale genome projects and submissions. Lauren has extensive experience in structural and functional annotation of genome sequences, comparative genome analysis, and project management. Her research interests include genome annotation, process design and development of annotation pipelines, tool development for genome analysis, and improving microbial gene annotation methods.

Prior to joining JCVI in 2001, Ms. Brinkac managed a team of biologists at The Bode Technology Group, developing forensic methodologies for detecting and identifying trace microbial, plant and human specimens. Ms. Brinkac earned her M.S. in Bioinformatics from George Mason University, and dual B.S. degrees in Biochemistry and Biology from Syracuse University.
