Vivek Krishnakumar
Sr. Bioinformatics Engineer

Research Interests and Accomplishments

Vivek Krishnakumar is a Senior Bioinformatics Engineer within the Plant Genomics group at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) since 2009. He specializes in generating, analyzing and curating genome/transcriptome assembly and annotation data, primarily for the model legume, Medicago truncatula. For all the major projects under the umbrella of the group (Medicago, Maize, Brassica, Willow), his responsibilities include maintaining their databases and web presence. This involves setting up and supporting project web sites and online resources (GMOD suite of tools, BISQUE Bio-image database) to disseminate data to the community. Armed with experience in several web technologies, he is currently leading the development of EuCAP, a web-based portal for community-driven curation of Medicago truncatula functional annotation.

Vivek earned his M.S. degree in Bioinformatics from the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University Bloomington and a B.Tech degree in Biotechnology from the School of Bio-Engineering at SRM University in India.
